Let’s Quit Like Sweden

Sweden is about to become the first smoke-free country.

HOW DID THEY DO IT?

Sweden has a comprehensive approach that combines smoking cessation and prevention measures and programmes with policies that enable people who smoke to choose alternatives instead. It is working. We call it the Swedish Experience.

Quit Like Sweden is supporting others to follow suit.

Our purpose is to encourage other countries to Quit Like Sweden using cessation and prevention measures and programmes, and by making alternatives to smoking:

ACCESSIBLE
Alternatives to smoking must be sold at least wherever cigarettes are sold.

ACCEPTABLE
Alternatives must come in a range of flavours and strengths to be realistic options for people who smoke.

AFFORDABLE
Alternatives must be more affordable than cigarettes.

“Quit Like Sweden’s mission is to replicate the Swedish Experience around the world – a mission that will help save lives.”

– Dr Anders Milton

WHAT DOES “SMOKE-FREE” MEAN?

THE WHO SAYS THAT IF A COUNTRY HAS A SMOKING RATE OF 5% OR LESS THEN IT’S REGARDED AS SMOKE-FREE. SWEDEN IS ABOUT TO REACH 5%, SO WE KNOW IT CAN BE DONE.

EU smoking rates are on average five times that of Sweden.
And these are neighbouring countries with similar measures and programmes in place, but not a comprehensive approach.

Help Save Lives.

Help the world to Quit Like Sweden.
